Hello and goodbye. Thanks for the love and hits and pageviews and clickity-clicks and coming to shows and sharing and listening and letting us stay at your house on tour. I won’t be posting here anymore but I am writing words over at a new old project called The Mesmerist and tweeting meaninglessness as usual. I wrote a long explanation of why I’m moving on here.

It’s my last month in new england for a while (migrational patterns) but lots of interesting shows are coming up

9/14 - I’m doing a radio performance on WTBU 4-6ish accompanied by Dillon Zahner, a creative percussionist dude I really like. *full disclosure he’s also my roommate

9/18 - A house show in brooklyn with Kevin Greenspon + Lizard Kisses; two bands that have been keeping it real for a long time.

9/19 - Great Scott in Boston w/ Hundred Waters. Yep you read that right, the new torchbearers of beautifully glitchy 70’s inspired folk music. They just got off of a train tour through Canada with Grimes and Skrillex. Life is weird but cool I guess?

9/30 - Another house show / potluck in Brooklyn. Its a new series my friend Orr is starting that looks like it will be super fun. I’ll be collaborating with my friend Ross and maybe some other folks I can coerce (maybe you?)

10/8 - The Summit in Columbus, OH w/ BIRTHDAYS, Little Spoon, and June66. Ohio is always super fun, especially on monday nights.

It was nearing the end of sxsw and I was in a bit of a Doritos fueled existential brand panic. I was trying to remember why we even go to music festivals. Why was it that I was spending more of my time escaping places that made my soul feel gross instead of using the opportunity to see so many people and bands that I love converged onto one city. I was starting to feel less like a person and more like a target market to some upstart social vodka ipad app.

Luckily a handful of friends who happen to run the music blogs Stadiums and Shrines, Think or Smile, and Smoke don’t Smoke (respectively) decided to throw a backyard show all last minute like which turned out to be the perfect antidote to my consumer blues. Almost completely unadvertised, it was just some human beings eating s’mores by the fire, drinking lonestar and playing music for each other on a absolutely beautiful Texas evening. New friends Matthew Sage and EOLA played as well as old friends Steffaloo and Little Spoon.

Yesterday, much to my surprise, I found out that Tonje over at No Fear of Pop got a pretty great recording of the last half of my set and put it out there in the interzone. Since I was playing for mostly my good friends it gets a little sillier than a normal mb show but I’m weirdly happy with how it all turned out. Thanks again to everyone who set this up + Tonje for the recording + Nate Mckee for the mastering.

I am unbelievable excited to be a part of Total Bummer this year along with Teengirl Fantasy, Hear Hums, Kohwi, COOLRUNNINGS, Levek, Dark Sea Of Awareness, Emily Reo, Little Spoon, Dreampeter, Netherfriends, Orchard Thief, Cuddle Formation, Ming Ming and like a hundred other bands I can’t remember right now. I can’t believe not only the insanely great line up but also how much I like all these bands as people. I think its gonna be megafun.

I think you can preorder tickets for cheap through indiegogo for a couple more days before it gets more expensive. come spend cinco de mayo with us in orlando!

Before spending a couple weeks making a semi-arbitrary circle around the Eastern United States making sounds for people who both did or did not want to hear them I would have never guessed that my favorite stop would have been Conway, Arkansas. More than anything I was overwhelmed by the spirit of everyone who attended. One of the people that stood out the most was E. Arnie, who arrived with a screen of a penguin and was ready to print it on to anyone’s shirt. I, of course, obliged and later learned she makes music, poetry, and visual art under the name Neon Glittery. Now that I’m back home with seemingly endless internet non-time I came across one of her tapes that Atlanta-based, Magic Rub Cassettes just put out and had to share it. It’s got that same spirit that I’m having a hard time shaking from my consciousness and maybe wishing that some of the bigger towns with more established art scenes would take note of.

Lizard Kisses - Pinch

Marc and Cory of Lizard Kisses are some of my best buds that I’ve met through the band/internet. We’ve collaborated on tons of songs together as both LK and mutual benefit and last September they invited me to Brooklyn to play in their band for a video shoot with Jessica Amaya. We all look super-serious and I’m probably a little too excited about using an Ebow for the first time (magnets, how do they work!?) but the footage is great I think.

We recorded some other songs live as well including a version of Runoff that I love. Cory and Marc put everything together as September Sessions which is available on soundcloud/mediafire.

Keep an eye on those guys this year! They’ve got some stuff in the works that I can’t wait to talk about.

Remixers Delight

Over on the mutual benefit facebook page someone posted the first ever remix of one of our songs (thanks john!) and I thought it might it might be fun to publicly post the stems to Auburn Epitaphs and Passenger so anyone could remix, chop ‘n screw, dub stepitize, or just solo my harmonies to realize that I use all that reverb to cover up some really bad notes. Both songs are in the same key if you wanna get all song-chimera-style on it too.
